Exactly how sustainable and socially responsible is Tacky Towels?

Updated: Jun 21, 2021

Short answer: very sustainable and socially responsible, and we are always striving to become even more so. As a startup we have a vision, and we are on a mission. But we are also starting with limited resources and connections. Yet we already have accomplished a whole lot in a short time, and we are very proud of that.

So, what exactly did we accomplish so far?

Tacky Towels are made with sustainable fabrics and pigments

All of the fabrics we use for producing our funky towels are cotton-based, produced locally and are OEKO-TEX certified. This certificate ensures that our towels have been tested for harmful substances and are harmless to human health. Our amazing designs are printed using pigment inks that are GOTS 5.0 compliant (non-toxic and highly sustainable), OEKO-TEX 100 (Class I and II) certified (harmless to human health) and offer great light-fastness and fastness to washing and wet rubbing.

Tacky Towels works together with social workplaces

Besides aiming for a positive impact on the environment by providing you with more eco-friendly kitchen towels, we also aim to have a lasting positive impact on society. Sewing and finishing of our towels is being done by Faktura, a social workplace in Berlin.

With our collaboration, we provide the women and men with an opportunity to socially connect and grow as individuals. Faktura is not only a manufactory, but also a meeting place where lost souls find professional help from trained therapists.

Tacky Towels has a no-waste policy

Yes, a no-waste policy. This means that not a single scrap of fabric is going to waste while making your Tacky Towels. Everything is being reused.

Tacky Towels minimizes its carbon footprint

For now all of our fabrics are sourced from Europe and all printing is done locally as well.

We shorten our supply chain and thereby reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.

Tacky Towels produces in relatively small batches

First of all, we are a startup and have limited resources to start with. But even if our kitchen revolution would grow in size, we will always strive to be as efficient in producing as possible. No huge batches with huge amounts of waste, but small batches with a no-waste policy. That’s what we stand for.

Tacky Towels uses a green printing technology

Our print technology is sustainable, has a positive ecological balance and results in a 95% higher (!) production efficiency than traditional printing methods.

Tacky Towels uses less paper and plastic

We wrap your Tacky Towels in recyclable cardboard and only use a small sticker to hold it together. All of our receipts and invoices are digital. The packaging is made from corn and is 100% recyclable.

Tacky Towels is eco-aware and strives to be even more so

We carefully select our business partners on eco-awareness. Not only do we want to put a smile on your face, but we want to positively impact environment and society while doing so. We are proud of where we are today, but we will always strive for more eco-awareness. By buying Tacky Towels instead of cheap rubbish with a huge negative impact, you can support us on our journey to become the most sustainable and colorful kitchen towel out there.

Ok bye,

Rina & Caspar
